For this week's Family Friday, we will do a counting game. In Geraldine the Giraffe, children will learn all about how Geraldine uses spots to identify her mother. Children will then practice their counting skills by rolling dice and identifying the spots that have the same number shown on the dice. Read our step-by-step guide on how you can play this interactive counting activity with your child at home!
What you need:
- Pre-made giraffe template (here)
- Dice
- Crayons/Markers
Step 1
Click to read Geraldine the Giraffe. Read the book with your child. Be sure to touch the illustrations to see the pictures come alive! You can also find this book by opening up your Footsteps2Brilliance App and going to Level 2 (Yellow). In your library, you'll find Geraldine the Giraffe in the Alphabet Animals book series.
Step 2
Print out the Geraldine the Giraffe template here.
Depending on the skill level of your child, use either the:
- Beginner template (numbers 1 - 6)
- Advanced template (numbers 2 - 12)
Step 3
Roll one or two dice, depending on whether you are using the Beginner or Advanced template. Have your child identify what number is shown on the dice. Have your child color in the spots with the corresponding number.
Continue rolling dice until all spots are filled in!
